A Case Study on Building and Growing Process of Initial Authorized Social Enterprise: Resource Dependency Theory and New Institutionalism Perspective

Abstract
This study was to examine the building and growing process of initial authorized social enterprise in term of resource dependency theory and new institutionalism. Namely, this study analyzed the role of institutional support and institutional isomorphism in the building and growing process of initial authorized social enterprises. After selecting case study method that used in organization research, study participants and organizations were selected. This study conducted in-depth interview on six social enterprises which were authorized during the period from 2007 to 2008. As a result, Korea social enterprises stated that they realized institutional support in the process of forming and it was useful in the process of growth. Based on these results, this study confirmed the institutional support works as coercive isomorphism by government policy. Additionally, mimetic isomorphism appeared through the atmosphere of the same kind business and area in the forming process of social enterprises, while mimetic isomorphism appeared through imitating behaviors in the growth process of social enterprises. Finally, we suggested some policy challenges and limitations.
